Be patient and take the time to voice your opinion on town matters

It has been a wonderfully mild winter and still we are all itching for spring, warm weather and sunshine.

It has been a wonderfully mild winter and still we are all itching for spring, warm weather and sunshine.

From a council perspective, we are getting busier with developments, planning, the aquatic/curling facility and many events to get out and meet people.

I personally am looking forward to more time for coffee with anyone who wants to chat about what’s happening in Cochrane. I appreciate you may have concerns or gripes and I always look forward to your suggestions and solutions.

A growing town is a challenge and exciting at the same time. Having lived here for 22 years, this spring I’ve lived through a lot of changes here, with my own family growing up, starting and closing a business after 15 years, two terms on council and the coming and going of many, many friends.

If there is one thing in life, and especially in Cochrane, that is constant, it’s that things change. And if there is one thing I’ve learned about change, it’s that although there is some pain with change, coming out the other side if you have the right attitude, is fantastic.

So, as we build our new aquatic/curling centre, begin the road connections for our new bridge across the river, plan locations for new schools and sports fields, meet and negotiate with CP Rail on safe crossings and continue to meet with the provincial government on the highway upgrades we so badly need to alleviate traffic congestion within town, I ask that you be patient. Not so patient as to be silent, but patient enough so that we can work together. Patient enough to think things through, ask questions, strive to understand and speak up for positive change.

Take the time to attend open houses and public hearings when you have questions. Check out the town website and the local papers for information about what’s new. We have been planning our growth and developments for many years and soon we will all live the benefits.

Remember, this is our town. Enjoy today and plan to be part of our great future. I’m looking forward to seeing and chatting with you soon.
