HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, passed away on April 9, 2021 at the age of 99.
I’d like to honour him in this week’s column with photos I took of him and the Queen when Elders of the Treaty 7 First Nations welcomed them to our beautiful Bow Valley in July 1973. These Elders shared in common with the Prince his passionate concern for the environment endangered, as Prince Philip put it, “because of a general and widespread ignorance and neglect.”
In tribute to him and their shared concern, I’ll let the Prince have the last word:
“A threat to any part of the environment is a threat to the whole environment, but we must have a basis of assessment of these threats, not so that we can establish a priority of fears, but so that we can make a positive contribution to improvement and ultimate survival.”
