Development continues in Cochrane

There’s no doubt that 2015 is going to be another exciting year for our community. Work continues to move development of the Quarry site forward; there is more and more interest from businesses looking to set up shop here and all over Cochrane.

There’s no doubt that 2015 is going to be another exciting year for our community.

Work continues to move development of the Quarry site forward; there is more and more interest from businesses looking to set up shop here and all over Cochrane. It was originally anticipated that it would take 10 years for the full build-out of the Quarry, but now it seems that it will be completed within five years. This is great news and helps balance our business/residential tax base. It shows commitment from the development industry that Cochrane is still a great place to do business.

Speaking of business/developer support, council received another major donation last week, this time from LaVita Land. This most recent contribution put us over $4.4 million in donations toward the new aquatic/curling multi-sport centre.

We are still on track for a spring groundbreaking and have had great responses from the tendering process to date. Over half of the project tenders are being awarded in the coming weeks and we are on budget, as set by council last year.

Council has had conversations, as I’m sure everyone in the community has had, around what may happen with provincial budgets going forward. While there are a lot of unknowns, please know that council has options we could explore should the need arise. We believe it is in the best interests of all residents that we continue to move this very worthy project forward.
