Fall fashion show highlight of busy October

Now that the Thanksgiving turkey is digested, Cochrane seniors can look forward to more events at Seniors on the Bow (SOTB). Today (Oct. 15) noon the mini food course will happen.

Today (Oct. 15) noon the mini food course will happen. This course is a must for folks who work in our commercial kitchen or help out at coffee drop-in.

On Oct. 16 during fun Friday at 2 p.m., Bob McArthur and Bob Jasper will fire up their instruments and play the lively dance music they are known for. Here is your chance to kick up your heels or simply listen to some great music. This is the first of fun Fridays when a special presentation by local artists will join us a couple of times a month. If you want these events to continue come out and join us.

The October highlight is the fall fashion show, which goes Oct. 17 from 2-4 p.m. Styles in Motion will show a colourful array of clothing with SOTB members as models. Following the show, garments will be available for purchase. As well, refreshments will be served with tea and coffee. Wine and beer are $4 each. There will be a 50/50 draw, door prizes and harpist Jade Lewis will entertain. Entrance fee is $10 for members and $12 for guests. Call SOTB at 403-932-6002 to reserve your seats.

On Oct. 22 at 1 p.m., the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation will bring Griffin the Hawk as part of the intergenerational program. There is no charge and the event is open to all. Please register by calling SOTB.

The Annual Wellness Fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 24 at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre. SOTB will have a booth and there will be displays from various wellness groups in Cochrane.

On Oct. 29 at 1:30 p.m. there will be a fibrillation workshop to learn how to use the AED equipment. Learn how to save a life. There is no charge but please register at 403-932-6002.

To celebrate Halloween the preschool children from Inspiring Minds will parade through SOTB in their costumes Oct. 29 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. and again Oct. 30 at 10:30 a.m. Join the fun and support the children.

Monday movie matinees at 1:15 p.m. will show Spy, an action/comedy Oct. 19 and True Story, a mystery/thriller Oct. 26.

On Oct. 30 at 2 p.m., book club meets to discuss the acclaimed book An Inconvenient Indian. The book for November is Still Alice, the story of a woman’s journey with Alzheimer’s disease.

SOTB is open daily Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. except for holidays.
