Federal Conservatives have failed Albertans

If Canada were a child, right now you’d be saying they were sick with the flu.

If Canada were a child, right now you’d be saying they were sick with the flu.

With fluids coming out of both ends, the Conservative government, or the Harper regime depending on how you look at it, has made a mockery of Canada, taken the tax payers for a roller-coaster ride we never asked for and charged double to do so.

Now, depending how you look at the Senate scandal, either Harper is not telling the truth or Nigel Wright, the man Harper worked hard to show was an honest man, a hard worker and a loyalist, only to drop like yesterday’s girlfriend, is a slithering snake beneath the nose of a clueless Prime Minister.

Either way Alberta, Harper has managed to mismanage Canada, holding us all hostage by the idea that no one except Harper cares about us.

That’s not a hard idea to wrap your head around considering the track record of federal politicians’ focus on Quebec and Ontario, but I digress.

As Canadians, we pay a lot of taxes – municipally, provincially and federally –with the idea that our money will be used to shorten hospital lines, fix roads and help our fellow Canadians in times of need. It’s a grand idea; it’s a pipe dream.

From the sponsorship scandal of the Liberals to the Senate blunder of the Harper regime, Canadian politics when left to a majority government is a sick and depraved place.

It seems that when the current regime hears tax, they see dollar signs, scripted cover-ups and a million-and-one reasons to screw us, the Canadian taxpayers.

What once started as a party to give Albertans a voice in federal politics has become a healthy propaganda machine churning fear, appointing senate seats based on party loyalty rather than merit or your actual address.

A party pandering to the Ontario votes and only coming back to the issue of oil and gas pipelines from time to time, to make sure we don’t feel left out in Alberta.

From stealing Canadian cash, stiffer sentences for possession of pot, fear created by omnibus Bill C-10, MPs attempting to gain unwarranted access into our lives with the controversial Bill C-30, this government has run based on fear.

Outside of the two large cities, Calgary and Deadmonton, I don’t see why Cochranites, Albertans and Canadians would support such a negative approach to governing.

For a party that has professed to have our best interest in mind, I doubt Cochrane is a town wanting their kids locked up with life-long criminal records, and I have never met a local so scared of criminal activity that they would give up basic constitutional rights, only afraid of what would happen if the government and RCMP have unwarranted access to our lives.

To the Conservative Party of Canada (don’t even get me started on the provincial Conservatives): remember where your roots are, rural Alberta and shame on you for forgetting that.

Canada’s image is important and I’d hate to be mistaken for a stereotypical American.
