Holiday happenings at SOTB

Winter has definitely arrived and Christmas is on the horizon. Mark the following Seniors on the Bow (SOTB) Christmas events on your calendar: the Christmas bake sale Nov. 28 goes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Mark the following Seniors on the Bow (SOTB) Christmas events on your calendar: the Christmas bake sale Nov. 28 goes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre (SLSFSC) in the main entrance on the south side. This is a fundraiser for SOTB and if you would like to donate baked items please contact Sheila Stilling at 403-932-5787.

The annual Christmas dinner will happen Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. (doors open at 5 p.m.) Get gussied up and enjoy this always-popular event with a complete turkey dinner with all the trimmings, entertainment and fellowship. There will be a cash bar with drinks for $4 each and tickets to the dinner are $25 available at SOTB reception. Cut off date for ticket purchase is Dec. 1.

SOTB is joining with SLSFSC Dec. 13 for the Last Minute Christmas Sale. Tables are available for the SOTB auditorium for $15; contact SOTB reception at 403-932-6002 to book.

November’s main event is “How You Can Make a Difference in a Challenging World.” Local speakers Michael and Judie Bopp, who form Four Worlds Centre for Development Learning north of Cochrane, will focus on their project in Northern Pakistan. Admission is $5 at the door; refreshments will be served.

Jam sessions take place Wednesday afternoons, so bring an instrument, your voices and your love of music and enjoy an afternoon of jamming. Interested? Contact Rick at 403-851-0188.

The intergenerational program runs from Nov. 18 on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons until Dec. 16. It’s a wonderful opportunity for seniors and young people to have fun together.

Finding balance with Wii games runs Nov. 21 at 1:30 p.m. Learn about fall prevention among Alberta seniors and real life strategies to avoid potentially serious falls.

On Nov. 24, the movie matinee will feature Argo, the story of the rescue of six American hostages in Iran.

Book club meets to discuss Journey to the Heartland, Nov. 28 at 2 p.m. The book for December will be Cool Water by Diane Warren.

SOTB is open daily Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. except for holidays.

PLEASE NOTE: The Seniors Centre will be closed from Dec. 22 to Jan. 4, 2015 for the Holidays. It will reopen at 9 a.m. Jan. 5 2015.
