Let's get to work moving forward with new MLA Westhead

To say I was surprised as I watched the results roll in on election night would be an understatement. I believed there would be change among our provincial leaders, but the NDP majority government was absolutely shocking.

I believed there would be change among our provincial leaders, but the NDP majority government was absolutely shocking. It was certainly not necessary to call an election at this point in time. Between that, an unfavourable budget proposal and a shaky few years of leadership in the PC party, I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised by the results. Regardless, we need to move on.

Congratulations to all the successful MLAs — let’s get to work!

To our past MLA Ron Casey, I thank you for the very good working relationship we enjoyed over the years. You represented us well and I appreciate your efforts advocating on our behalf.

We have been working very hard with Alberta Transportation on a new plan for the intersection of Highways 1A and 22. It has been one of our highest priorities for our town and we do not want that hard work to go unacknowledged.

I look forward to meeting and getting to know Cameron Westhead, our new MLA, to make sure he is aware of these efforts, and others, that will continue to improve our great town.

It will take some time for this new government to get settled and new ministers to understand all their regional priorities; I will continue to work to keep Cochrane’s interests front and center.
