Dear editor, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has been acting like Prime Minister Justin Trudeau just pulled the idea of a Just Transition out of his hat. In fact, it’s been over three years since he first promised to pass Just Transition legislation to protect workers and communities affected by the world’s inevitable and accelerating shift to clean energy. If anything, Trudeau has been far too slow in making progress on this crucial legislation. Since he first promised a Just Transition Act, the climate crisis has only worsened and renewable energy options have only continued its increase. Workers can’t keep waiting for help navigating this massive shift. They need action now. It’s time for Trudeau to keep his promise to workers and pass the Just Transition Act. Sincerely,
