LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Balance can be found between off-leash park and cyclists

I wanted to respond to the letter from Mr Knox, suggesting that cyclists should be banned from the off leash down by the river.

I wanted to respond to the letter from Mr Knox, suggesting that cyclists should be banned from the off leash down by the river.

To suggest that cyclists take the very long route around the other side of the river, which goes up a steep hill and would add another 30-40 minutes on to a family bike ride, is a little crazy.

From what I have seen, the bike group is wanting to help come up with a solution that works for all parties. Dog walkers have been there for years and absolutely should not lose access to this beautiful part of town. All that cyclists want, is a safe passage through without being chased by dogs.

A simple path along the fence line, that’s fenced off from the rest of the park, would be more than adequate for cyclists to have that safe passage, and dog walkers could enjoy the paths as they always have.

We are Cochranites and we work together to find a good solution for all. There’s no need for any group to be banned from this beautiful stretch of riverside paths.

Kind regards
