During these very difficult times we are all doing the best we can to cope with this pandemic, Cochrane Home Treasures is no exception.

Our staff is wearing masks, distancing and washing hands all according to the Alberta Health Services rules.

Alberta Health Services set these rules not us.

In order to keep us all safe, part of our job now is to remind customers that they must have masks on when entering the store. Some people feel that being asked to wear a mask is an infringement on their rights and yes, they have the right not wear one, but they do not have the right to come into an establishment and berate the staff and customers who are abiding by the Alberta Health Services rules.

On Wednesday (March 30) a customer came into Cochrane Home Treasures not wearing a mask.

Our store manager politely asked her to put on a mask and was willing to supply her with one. She then started to berate the store manager, yelling that she had no right to tell her to wear a mask and she would not be putting one on. Her voice was loud enough that other customers were now getting involved.

Thank you to the customers who spoke up in defence of the manager.

In order to get the situation under control the customer was asked to immediately leave the store which she did. Some minutes later she returned and took a picture of the manager.

This is harassment and it is frightening.

During this pandemic let’s support our staff who might have to endure this form of verbal abuse.

Yes, it is your right to say no to masks, but those of us who serve this community, love our family and friends and want to keep them all safe, will keep on wearing them.
