Medical care here, Rockyview first rate

As I said last week — and I know you hang on every word — I was in the hospital for a week recently, but that’s not the story. Bottom line, I went for a surgical procedure to determine if I had cancer inside me.

As I said last week — and I know you hang on every word — I was in the hospital for a week recently, but that’s not the story.

Bottom line, I went for a surgical procedure to determine if I had cancer inside me. I didn’t, but the procedure caused an infection, so it was the lesser of two evils for sure.

But I did learn a couple of things.

One I learned is that our emergency medical centre here in Cochrane is very, very good.

I endured a similar situation about five years ago and went to the Peter Lougheed Hospital. The care and attention I received at the Cochrane centre was far more thorough.

Just thought you’d like to know.

I ended up at Rockview Hospital for a week and it was my first visit there.

I’ve been in both Lougheed and Foothills, and if there’s a competition — Rockyview comes first.

Just a little thing like ice water. Day or night there was always a fresh glass of ice water on the bedside table.

It occurred to me if all the vice-presidents of the Alberta Health Service had the dedication and compassion of the front line troops we’d have an incredible health system.

Still with good stuff.

I realize there were hundreds of volunteers who did wonderful things helping others during the recent floods, but one group in particular stands out for me.

It’s the Cochrane Search and Rescue group of local volunteers who were out in that cold rain for hours at a time watching the river, checking the banks and keeping an eye on the bridges.

They did so our first responders were free to do what they do best and that’s help others.

So a special tip of the hat to the Search and Rescue folks in their yellow slickers for helping keep us safe.

Thank you.
