Progress is the word for 2014

The new year has well and truly begun. And off to a good start! The new council wrapped up 2013 with a taxpayer-friendly budget and Cochrane experienced record growth – on our terms. Progress is the theme I would pick for 2014.

The new year has well and truly begun.

And off to a good start! The new council wrapped up 2013 with a taxpayer-friendly budget and Cochrane experienced record growth – on our terms.

Progress is the theme I would pick for 2014. Stores are coming on quickly in the Quarry, the Centre Avenue railway crossing is due to open soon, work towards the new pool is ramping up and the east-end pathway is finally going to be completed. On top of that, council’s commitment to staying engaged has expanded to include the Coffee with the Mayor sessions.

It’s going to be a good year and I look forward to working with this council on making it a great one.

Stay connected.

There has already been so much snow this winter, keeping town streets and sidewalks clear and safe is a real challenge.

To help with road maintenance:

• Please place shovelled snow on your lawn, not the street. Large piles of snow impede street cleaning, visibility and storm water flow.

• Keep curbside storm drains clear of ice and snow to allow for optimum drainage.

Mayor Ivan Brooker will be at the Home Quarter Mercantile & Pie Shoppe from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Thursday Jan. 23.

If you are a local business interested in providing a venue for Coffee with the Mayor, we’d like to hear from you. You provide the space, we provide the coffee and supplies. Contact Rebecka Freels, town communications, 403-851-2576 or [email protected].
