Riders seal the deal

Just as I thought, the Saskatchewan Roughriders were unstoppable. Where do I start? Well, before the Grey Cup would be a good place to begin.

Just as I thought, the Saskatchewan Roughriders were unstoppable.

Where do I start? Well, before the Grey Cup would be a good place to begin. As soon as the Riders beat the Calgary Stampeders and found out that Hamilton prevailed against Toronto, the Riders – along with about 99 per cent of the nation – knew they would win the 101st Grey Cup.

In the game in which the Riders dominated 45-23, it was in large part due to Kory Sheets’s performance. The star running back carried the ball 20 times for 197 yards on the way to setting the record for most rushing yards in a Grey Cup game. He also won the most-outstanding player award and, oh yeah, the Grey Cup as well.

Then there’s slotback Geroy Simon. Simon had just three touchdown receptions all regular season. Well, that really does not matter. The only thing that matters is what you do in the big game.

Simon showed up in the big game and had one of the best games I have seen him play in over a year. The all-time Canadian Football League receiving-yards leader caught two touchdown passes and won his third career Grey Cup. Earlier this week Simon said he would not retire, regardless of the result of the game, which is a great thing for the league to have. Congratulations to the 2013 Saskatchewan Roughriders on winning their fourth Grey Cup in team history.
