Spring weather aiding pool/curling centre progress

This past Sunday (June 14) was another terrific Footstock event in Cochrane. Seeing the smiling faces of the kids in the “Kids of Steel” event was priceless and even though it was a chilly day, I’m sure the experience will be something they remember for many years to come.

Thanks to the organizers and everyone who helped make this day possible. It is so encouraging to see our youth getting out, being active and taking part in sports. I know it sometimes takes a lot of encouragement from parents to get kids off the couch and I thank you for that.

So much is written about the benefits of keeping our kids active. This is one of the reasons why it is so important to me, and this council, that we continue to work hard on providing facilities and opportunities for active participation in our community.

I want to update everyone on the new the aquatic and curling/multi-sport centre progress.

It has been a great spring in terms of working outdoors and it has shown in our progress. The concrete in the curling area is complete and steel is going up over that area. The forms and prep work for concrete is currently underway in the pool area and should be poured soon as well.

The whole project is on budget and currently a bit ahead of schedule. We hope to have the entire building closed in by this fall so that work can continue over the winter on the inside.

You can watch the progress live on the construction webcams on RocktheWaves.ca/news/construction-updates.
