Talking Cochrane

I want to thank the organizers and volunteers of Cochrane Light Up. It was a bitterly cold day, a true test of community spirit, and yet 5,000-6,000 people still came out and participated in the festivities.

I want to thank the organizers and volunteers of Cochrane Light Up. It was a bitterly cold day, a true test of community spirit, and yet 5,000-6,000 people still came out and participated in the festivities. While you may have been freezing on the outside, your heart had to be warmed seeing the smiles on people’s faces.

With that in mind, I would love to remind and encourage everyone to shop locally this Christmas season. Helping to create a sustainable community benefits us all. Our businesses become stronger and are better able to provide a greater selection of goods and services. Consumers win too: you do not have to battle crowded malls, waste time and money on commuting to the city and in many cases, you’re supporting friends and neighbours.

I have been out in our community for some time fundraising for our new aquatic/curling centre, and I know that other groups and organizations approach our local businesses for financial support throughout the year. It’s wonderful when they are able to help out, but please remember that it is equally important that we do our part to help them as well.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas.
