Rocky View County unofficial election results are in, where eight out of nine county divisions will see a switch in representation as only one incumbent seeking re-election was successful.

The elected officials include Mark Kamachi (division 1); Kim McKylor (division 2); Kevin Hanson (division 3); Albert Micheal Schule (division 4); Jerry Gautreau (division 5); incumbent Greg Boehlke (division 6); Daniel Henn (division 7); Samanntha Wright (division 8); and Crystal Kissel (division 9).

Mark Kamachi will represent Bragg Creek (division 1) as area councillor. The owner of AdMaki Creative marketing will champion local business and growth in the hamlet to make Bragg Creek more viable. Kamachi will take over from current Coun. Liz Breakey, who did not seek re-election.

Kamachi defeated Enrique Massot, a journalist best known for his County News Online publication, 617 to 250.

Coun. Jerry Arshinoff lost his bid for a second term in his position as Springbank councillor (division 2).

Arshinoff who focused on the preservation of agricultural values, slowed growth and a residents-first approach, was often the lone voice of opposition against the rest of county council. He was defeated by businesswoman Kim McKylor 519 to 495.

McKylor will look to provide more seniors housing and be an advocate for the preservation of “agricultural roots while ensuring growth and strengthening of the tax base ” while adding recreational enhancements to the community.

Incumbent Eric Lowther was also ousted losing his re-election bid as Bearspaw councillor. Lowther was elected mid-term in 2015, following the untimely passing of the late Al Secuta.

Lowther wanted to continue on as an effective communicator with neighbouring municipalities, working toward implementing flood mitigation solution, on seniors housing and addressing all development applications and ensure any developments fit well in the community.

He was defeated by Samanntha Wright, an outspoken critic of past councils. Wright ran unsuccessfully against Lowther in 2015 and will look to better accountability, transparency and engagement with residents.

Wright has been an active member of Rocky View Gravel Watch and will prioritize implementing an aggregate resource policy; fiscal responsibility; a voter’s list; and careful development.

Incumbent Bruce Kendall was ousted by Cochrane Lakes (division 9) voter. Kendall who campaigned on a balanced approach to provide resident services and keep taxes low, said he was the best choice to assist the county with the coming Regional Growth Management board.

Crystal Kissel won division nine over with her platform centered on “the right choice for your voice. ” The 20-year resident, horse and businesswoman has been concerned that the county is not listening to its voters. She won over Kendall and Ward 5 Rocky View Schools trustee Colleen Munro who took a stab at county politics after choosing not to run for re-election with RVS.

Kissel has said she will advocate for sustainable development, the implementation of a resident-driven aggregate resource policy and a residents-first approach.
