2021 Cochrane Council Election Coverage

Crierie said council has been spending time talking about projects that may be over their heads, like the conceptual river wave park on the Bow River that was brought forth for discussion by the Cochrane Tourism Association in November last year.

Cochrane is in search of a stage to address town council’s 19 candidates in a forum before the Oct. 18 election, who or what will answer the call?

Originally from B.C., Murphy said he’s been dreaming of moving to Cochrane since his family came to to Calgary when he was just 12 years old. He and his own young family have since made that dream a reality, moving to town last February. His motivation to better the community from a seat on council stems back to his idealistic vision of the town as a young boy.

“We have a fabulous community, we’re so ideally located, we’re minutes from everything and the beauty that’s all around us. It’s a community where you don’t have to advertise for people to live here, you don’t have to advertise for businesses to come here, people want to line up to get here."

Running on a platform of fiscal responsibility, building healthy futures and taking action on the issues that matter most to Cochranites, Dan Cunin has joined the race for a seat on Cochrane town council.

“I’ve been here forever and I think I could actually help and it would be really nice to give people a voice.”

“I’m used to looking at the big picture and how it impacts all the different demographics that make up a city or a town,” Muir said. “That includes your groups, your businesses and all individuals.”

“I’m a community builder at heart and I’m just trying to do it more formally now."

“I’m running with a passion, vision and certain plan to serve and improve amenities and public service in Cochrane,” Singh said. “If elected to Town council I’ll use the opportunity to make sure everyone’s voice is heard.”

The Town of Cochrane has seen three candidate's complete nomination forms since forms were eligible for submission on Jan. 1.
