One arrested in suspicious death of Airdrie woman: RCMP

RCMP are investigating after a woman was found dead in an Airdrie home on Jan. 13.

One man has been arrested in a suspicious death of a woman in Airdrie on Thursday and an investigation is ongoing. 

Mounties responded to a 911 call on Jan. 13 around 8 a.m. about a man in medical distress at a business in northeast Airdrie. 

"Emergency Medical Services attended the scene and assessed the male," the Jan. 14 press statement read. "As a result of the investigation, a well-being check was done at a residence in Airdrie." 

Officers discovered a woman inside the home dead.

"The adult male was taken into custody in relation to the death, however, [he] was transported to hospital for his well-being and remains for an extended period," the release stated.

Police are not seeking any additional suspects at this time and there is no risk to the public.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken the investigation over with the assistance of the Forensic Identification Section.

An autopsy has been ordered by the office of the chief medical examiner which will be completed soon, RCMP said. 

Next of kin have been notified, and RCMP said an update will be provided when more details can be released.
