On  Aug. 23 everyone is welcome to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day at Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park. This event was originally scheduled to happen back in June, but thanks to severe rain it was put on hold - but, you know what they say, second time's a charm.

This large-scale event will focus on the history of lands and culture of the Stoney Nakoda People. The day will be filled with traditional Indigenous dance and drumming (hourly), games, local vendors, art exhibits created by Indigenous youth, and interpretive walks from 1 p.m to 3 p.m. There will also be engagement through hands-on learning for both children and adults.

"The goal of this event is to bring the spirit of reconciliation to life through learning, making connections, gratitude and fun," said Sarah Parker, executive director for Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park Foundation.

The Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park provides visitor services, public programs and fundraises for the park.

The event will be from noon to 4 p.m. and will cost you nothing but a smile. There will be a free shuttle service from Cochrane and Morley which you can register for online at www.grpf.ca/indigenous-day.

Pick up in Cochrane is at the FCSS building on 209 2nd Avenue at 11:45 a.m. and at the parking lot at the Tribal Band Office at 11 a.m.
