Attention Cochranites: registration is now open for Heavenly Outhouse’s Cochrane Outhouse Races.

With proceeds going to support the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank, the annual event is scheduled to occur the last Saturday in September — the 28th — at 10 a.m. And organizer Karrie Peace — also the owner-operator of the host business — is putting out the call for racers.

“These events are what living in Cochrane is all about,” said Peace. “It’s a great community, great fun and in support of a great cause.”

Each year, between 14-18 teams sign up for the event, which is in its 13th year. Cash prizes are awarded to the funniest team and the fastest team. The team that makes the most sizeable donation will be given a special prize.

With five people on a team — four runners and one inside the outhouse — the races will be held in heats down Main Street. The Cochrane CookHouse will be offering a pancake breakfast — which includes gluten free options — starting at 10 a.m.

To enter, all a team has to do is make a donation, said Peace. Last year, the event raised more than $6,000 for the food bank, which is put into the Christmas food hamper campaign. This year, Peace is hoping to raise even more cash for the local initiative.

It is suggested potential teams begin training now. This year, the Cochrane Eagle will be entering a team. It is believed the Eagle team is ready to bring it.
