Bust out your dancing shoes and your finest attire — it’s almost time for the annual fireman’s ball to light up Cochrane.

The 2013 Cochrane Firefighter Charity Ball is slated to run Nov. 23 at The Links of GlenEagles. The annual event is presented by the Cochrane Fire Fighters Community Foundation.

The evening promises a good time to partygoers, complete with cocktails, dinner, live music, and plenty of chances to support Cochrane-based organizations.

“This is a fun event, and it’s a great opportunity for the public to come meet and mingle with the town’s emergency responders,” said Jory Jenson, Cochrane Emergency Services Captain and organizer of the gala.

Packing the dance floor for the night will be Calgary band, Sugar Rush. The professional musicians will be playing their covers of Top 40 hits for the crowd, along with crowd-pleasing songs from the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s.

For Jenson, the gala is two-fold. First, it is an opportunity for emergency personnel to get to know each other better. Second, the event gives the community a chance to get to know Cochrane’s firefighters, paramedics and law enforcement officers.

“Community members don’t normally have a chance to get to know us very well,” he remarked with a laugh. “Usually, when they see us, it’s because there is something bad going on.”

Tickets for the event are $70, with a portion of the proceeds going to support a local charity.

Last year, the ball raised about $4,000, which was divided between the Cochrane and Area Humane Society and the Cochrane Food Bank. The fire fighters group has yet to determine which local organization will be on the receiving end of this year’s proceeds.

The Cochrane Fireman’s Ball gets underway with cocktails at 5 p.m. with dinner beginning at 7 p.m. The dance is slated for 9 p.m. Dress is formal.

Tickets can be purchased by contacting Jenson at [email protected].
