The swim club came home from the Alberta Summer Swimming Association provincial competition in Edmonton Aug. 12 to 14 decorated with 27 medals, two new provincial records, countless club records and personal bests, plus a team banner to boot.

Local wrestler Nicholas Hooper called the gold medal one of the highlights of his wrestling career to date.

“We haven’t been able to have regional or provincial meets for three years and so to come in and put this huge stamp on it, it’s so exciting.”

Three Cochrane athletes, one Bearspaw athlete, and one "mission staff" member are representing their hometown at the 2022 Canada Summer Games, which are being held this month in Niagara, Ont.

The Cochrane-based Junior B Tier 1 team finished fourth in their quest to clinch the Larry Bishop Memorial Cup in Okotoks last weekend (July 29 to Aug. 1) after a hard-fought season that saw the ‘Tips earn the top seed and win the central division championship for the first time in franchise history.

The summer swim club finished the weekend meet with countless new personal bests and one new provincial record, set by a former member of the Calgary Swordfish – Aaron Xiao.

The U13 Cobras and U15 Cherry Bombs brought home some gold hardware from the Calgary tournament which ended this past weekend

"As an organization, this is massive for us," said head coach Tyler Waycott. "We set out at the beginning of the year to be at the top of the division and it's always been a goal of ours to get here."
