Humane Society deserves support

This weekend’s Mutt Strut was another great opportunity to support the amazing work the Cochrane and Area Humane Society does on a regular basis.

This weekend’s Mutt Strut was another great opportunity to support the amazing work the Cochrane and Area Humane Society does on a regular basis.

With its newly open facility, the society has positioned itself well to be a premier institution in the region offering rescue, adoption, training services and much more to vulnerable animals and pet owners.

For nearly 20 years, the society has worked with fierce determination to ensure animals in need are given the care they need and are provided with loving homes to live out their lives.

Events such as the Mutt Strut are instrumental to the society achieving its mission to: lead and educate communities in animal welfare by providing pets in need with shelter, rehabilitation, training and opportunity, and supporting people in responsible pet care – saving and changing lives.

Each year the Mutt Strut raises tens of thousands of dollars to support the society, added to other charity events and funds donated by individuals and businesses in the community.

While there is no doubt the society receives generous support from this community, but there is always need for more.

It costs hundreds of dollars to care for one animal and those costs can add up, especially considering the influx of animals the shelter deals with and the fact the society strives not to euthanize.

With that in mind, there are always ways to help the society keep animals in good care and eventually find their fur-ever homes.

For those who are unable to attend the many events the society puts on, it does accept donations to cover the costs of food, medical care, vaccinations, neutering and more. Donations receive a tax receipt.

If you’re tight on cash, don’t fret. The society also accepts bottle donations and items for pets that are in good condition: dog beds, toys, etc. There is also the ATB Mastercard program that generates cash for the society and the user upon activation.

Volunteers and foster homes are always welcome as well.

We salute the valuable and important work the humane society does and hope, as they do, one day their rescue services will no longer be necessary.
