2021 Federal Election Coverage

Tripling their votes across the country from the 2019 election was not enough, now Wellwood and two others from the PPC have their sights set on another election day, the race for an Alberta Senator Oct. 18.

“I've always saw myself as a voice for the people of the riding, whether I've been in government or opposition. I always feel there's a way you can be effective and getting called out for those viewpoints. You just take a different approach, and I'll continue to take the approach I have. I believe we can still get results for our area. I believe that I can still be an effective voice for our constituents and always continue to work to do that.”

With the polls closed and the final votes tallied, the Liberal Party of Canada has secured another minority government. The results come after Trudeau called a snap election just over a month ago.

Following the Alberta government’s Sept. 3 announcement reinstating mask mandates, $100 incentives for vaccinations, and liquor curfews, a member of the United Conservative Party (UCP) has spoken out in opposition to the party’s stance.

A recent poll of the Banff-Airdrie riding conducted by Saskatoon-based Spadina Insights projects Blake Richards will once again be headed to Ottawa as the Member of Parliament for Banff-Airdie. 

Eight candidates took part in a forum organized by the Cochrane and District Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday. Chamber president Ozzie Sawicki moderated the event. The only candidate not present was independent Ron Voss.

“No matter what it is we want people to vote, and we don’t want people to stay at home. We can all go on social media to complain about what’s going on, but if you don’t vote you don't have the right to complain."

With federal election voting day just a few weeks away, Sarah Zagoda has announced she is looking to secure the Banff-Airdrie riding for the New Democratic Party (NDP).

On one hand he has had enough of Banff-Airdrie MP Blake Richards and on the other, he believes the federal pathways are not benefiting the interests of Alberta, vowing to work toward the province’s independence.

“I am disappointed by many Conservative MPs, but some of them deserve more … ire from their constituents than others, and one of them is the MP of this riding, Blake Richards. He’s the whip of Erin O’Toole and he’s carrying O’Toole’s water out here."
