If you’re someone who is active on social media – Twitter in particular – you may have noticed a significant upsurge of activity from Cochrane Sustainability (or Sustainability Partners Uniting Resources (SPUR)) since the municipal election.

If Canada were a child, right now you’d be saying they were sick with the flu.

The Seniors Drop In Centre remains open with full programs and activities until Dec. 23 when it closes for the Christmas break and reopens Jan. 2. A November highlight is the Fraud Prevention Seminar Nov. 21 from 1-2 p.m.

As I’m writing this week’s column, it’s Remembrance Day in Canada, a day synonymous with respect, the topic of last week’s column.

The Cochrane Rockies U10 won gold and The U12 ‘A’ and U12 ‘B’ both won silver at a ringette tournament in Beaumont. When I write it is normally about hockey and other professional sports.

Cochrane is a vibrant, working town. Considering that we only have 18,750 residents, we have all the amenities needed, yet still maintain a small-town atmosphere.

I had the distinct pleasure of attending the 2013 finals for the Canadian Cowboy Challenge held at Prairie Winds Stables. Cochrane was well represented in both the competitors and officials and a great time was had by all.

Canadians are not sports fans, they are hockey fans. It’s a statement I have made and have believed for years, and stand by to this day.
