On Aug. 12, I was flying into Denver and still feeling the effects of the four-day TransRockies Challenge. I had got pretty beaten up riding my mountain bike, navigating trail sections between Blairmore and Canmore.

It is a pretty humbling experience to see a community holding someone special in their hearts and minds, and to witness the outpouring of love, generosity and gratitude unfold in front of your eyes.

In the midst of an unexpectedly full summer, my wife Mary Anna and I were actually able to squeeze in a memorable three-hour mini-holiday.

So far, in TransRockies Quest 888, I have completed three events, the Skirt chaser 5km, the Fernie 80km Trail Ultra and the Kananaskis three day 76km Trail Ultra. On July 13, it was a change of pace, The TransRockies Gran Fondo.
